About Us

Cultivating Safe Spaces for Mental Health

We are a dedicated social enterprise operating in the UK, committed to removing the barriers surrounding mental health support anDsustainable personal growth.

Our Story

New Roots Wellbeing CIC was founded by Edith Igbinosa Christopher, a Mental Health Nurse and former ESOL teacher, together with a team of professionals who share a passion for improving mental health, wellbeing, and community inclusion for refugees, migrants, and ethnic minority communities.

The organisation was inspired by the collective experiences of its team members in mental health, education, community support, information technology, and logistics. Through their work with some of the most vulnerable individuals in society, they witnessed firsthand barriers many people face, including language difficulties, social isolation, trauma, cultural differences, and challenges accessing support services.

These experiences highlighted a significant gap between clinical services and community-based support. It became clear that many individuals needed more than medical treatment alone—they needed connection, belonging, practical guidance, and culturally sensitive support to improve their wellbeing and build fulfilling lives.

The founding directors recognised that mental wellbeing is shaped not only by healthcare but also by social connection, confidence, inclusion, and access to opportunities. They saw the need for a community-based approach that promotes early intervention, reduces isolation, and empowers individuals to access support before challenges escalate into crisis.

This shared vision led to the creation of New Roots Wellbeing CIC—a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed organisation dedicated to supporting refugees, migrants, and ethnic minority communities.

Our aim is to empower individuals through wellbeing support, peer connection, ESOL assistance, community engagement, and signposting to services. By promoting belonging, resilience, and early intervention, we are helping to build stronger roots and stronger communities.

New Roots Wellbeing CIC is a community interest company supporting refugees, migrants, and ethnic minority individuals through culturally sensitive mental health and wellbeing support.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to feel connected, valued, and supported. Through early intervention, peer support, ESOL assistance, and community engagement, we help individuals build confidence, improve wellbeing, and develop meaningful connections within their communities.
